MTL — machine-translated — Chinese web novels are how most English readers get past the human-translation bottleneck. The catalogs are huge: FanMTL, WTR-Lab, SonicMTL and LNMTL between them carry more cultivation novels than anyone will finish. The trade is quality. MTL prose is rough, sometimes incoherent, often funny in ways the author didn't intend. But you get to read the next 700 chapters of the cultivation novel you love, without waiting two years for a human translation.

The hard part isn't finding the novels. It's reading them on a phone without bouncing through a wall of ads, broken pagination, and "Tap here to continue" interstitials. The fix is a reader app that downloads the chapters and shows you only the text. This guide is about that.

The MTL site landscape

A handful of sites cover most of what English MTL readers need:

Smaller MTL catalogs — MTL Novel (mtlnovel.me) and NovelHall — fill gaps when a series is missing from the big ones. The reading problem

Each of these sites is an aggregator with a business model: serve ads against your scrolling. The reading UI reflects it. Three issues compound:

1. Pagination is split into "click for next" pages — sometimes mid-chapter — which destroys flow. The "next chapter" button is occasionally a disguised ad.
2. Mobile typography is whatever the host serves. No serif, no true black, no real margin control. Reading 200,000 words at the wrong line-height is exhausting.
3. Offline is a fantasy. Browser cache fills, evicts, fails on reload. There's no "download for the flight" option that survives airplane mode.

Like the other MTL sites, it's built for reading in a browser, one ad-wrapped page at a time. A browser tab doesn't keep chapters for the flight.
