This page explains how to delete your Arc Reader account and the personal data associated with it. It is the canonical link we provide to Google Play and the App Store for their data-safety disclosures, so you do not need to install or sign in to anything to read or use it.
01Delete from inside the app
The fastest way to delete your account is from the app itself. The flow is identical on iOS and Android.
- Open Arc Reader and make sure you are signed in to the account you want to remove (Settings → Account shows the email at the top).
- Tap Settings in the bottom tab bar.
- Tap Account.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account (red).
- Read the confirmation sheet, type the word
deletein the field shown, and tap Delete account permanently. - You will be signed out, the local copy of your library will be cleared, and our server will start the deletion job.
You will receive a confirmation email within a few minutes. The server-side deletion job completes within 30 days; in practice, almost always within 24 hours.
02Delete by email
If you cannot access the app — for example, you have lost your phone, can no longer install the app, or are blocked from signing in — send us an email instead.
To — contacts.simplestudio@gmail.com
Subject — Arc Reader account deletion request
From — the email address registered to the account
Include the following in the body so we can verify the request and act on it:
To: contacts.simplestudio@gmail.com Subject: Arc Reader account deletion request Hello, Please delete the Arc Reader account associated with this email address ([YOUR ACCOUNT EMAIL]) and any personal data linked to it. Account email : [YOUR ACCOUNT EMAIL] Approx. sign-up : [MONTH / YEAR if you remember] Platform : [iOS / Android / both] I confirm that I am the owner of this account and request the permanent deletion of my profile, synced library, highlights, notes, and any associated metadata, in accordance with the Arc Reader account-deletion policy. Thank you, [YOUR NAME] [DATE]
We will reply with a one-time confirmation link to the same email address. Click it within 7 days and the deletion job runs immediately. We do this small extra step so a stolen or mis-typed email cannot be used to wipe someone else’s library.
03What gets deleted
On confirmed deletion we permanently remove the following from our production systems and from any operational backup whose retention window expires within 35 days:
| Category | Specifics |
|---|---|
| Profile | Email address, display name, hashed password, password-reset tokens. |
| Sessions | All active and past JWT sessions, refresh tokens, and device-linkage records. |
| Synced library | The list of novels you added, source URLs, per-chapter metadata, and reading progress. |
| Annotations | All highlights, notes, bookmarks, and review tags. |
| Coins & ledger | Unredeemed coin balance and your in-app coin transaction history (earn / spend events). |
| Preferences | Reader theme, font, TTS voice, sync settings — anything stored against your account. |
| Support history | In-app feedback messages tied to your account ID. Email threads are anonymised after 90 days. |
| Analytics events | Account-scoped behavioural events are deleted; aggregate, non-identifying counts may persist. |
On-device data — downloaded chapters, the local SQLite library, cached covers — lives only on your phone. Uninstalling the app, or using Settings → Storage → Clear local data, removes it. We never see it.
04What we keep, and why
A small set of records is retained after account deletion because we are legally or contractually required to keep them, or because anonymising them would defeat their integrity-control purpose. They are stored in restricted, audit-logged archives and are not used for product, marketing, or analytics:
| Category | Why we keep it | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Billing & tax records | Required by tax authorities and the App Store / Play Store payment processor. Contains the transaction ID, amount, currency, country, and date — not your library or reading data. | 7 years (or local statutory minimum, whichever is greater) |
| Abuse / security logs | Anonymised IP, device hash, and event type for actions like takedown notices, repeated source abuse, or sign-in fraud. Retained to enforce our DMCA repeat-infringer policy and to detect future fraud. | 12 months |
| Server access logs | Standard request logs (IP, path, status). These rotate independently of accounts. | 30 days |
| Backups | Encrypted database snapshots used only for disaster recovery. Snapshots older than the deletion request are restored only if absolutely necessary; restored data is re-deleted within 24 hours. | 35 days |
05Timeline
From the moment you confirm a deletion request:
- Immediately. Your sessions are revoked, the account is locked, and you are signed out on every device.
- Within minutes. The deletion job runs on the primary database. Your profile, library, annotations, and ledger are removed.
- Within 24 hours. Backed-up search indices and caches are purged.
- Within 30 days. All standard backup snapshots that contain a copy of your row have rotated past their retention window.
- Forever, after that. Only the records listed in Section 04 remain — and only as long as their stated retention window.
You can re-create an Arc Reader account with the same email at any time. There is no waiting period, no shadow record, no “you used to be a customer” flag.
06Guest users & on-device data
If you have only ever used Arc Reader as a guest — i.e. you never registered an email — you do not have a server-side account to delete. Your library, downloads, and highlights live entirely on your device. To remove them:
- Open the app and go to Settings → Storage.
- Tap Clear local data to wipe library, downloads, and reader settings.
- Or simply uninstall the app — iOS and Android remove all sandboxed app data on uninstall.
Your guest session ID is randomly generated, not linked to any personal identifier, and is discarded server-side after 30 days of inactivity. There is nothing to email us about.
07Subscriptions & refunds
If you have an active Premium subscription at the time you delete your account:
- Your access to Premium features ends with your account, immediately on deletion.
- Your subscription itself is billed by the App Store or Google Play, not by us. Deleting your Arc Reader account does not automatically cancel the subscription.
- To stop being billed, cancel the subscription in your store account before deleting the Arc Reader account:
- iOS — Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Arc Reader → Cancel.
- Android — Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Arc Reader → Cancel.
- Refunds for the current billing period are governed by the store’s refund policy, not by us. We do not see your card details and cannot issue a refund directly.
The deletion confirmation email will warn you again if we detect an active subscription on the account.
08Questions & appeals
